You have to try to pull up as much of the plant and its rhizome system as possible with your tug, as we do just ripping it out and leaving a lot of rhizomes behind. you have to sift through the soil in the hole to check for rhizomes. Then repeat the process for every and each shoot. Some of the rhizomes will inevitably remain unharvested, will result in fresh shoots that emerge later.

Smothering: smothering is another method for removing bamboo, with help of tarps we can remove bamboo so here I will discuss how it will possible, so spread a tarp over the area and weigh it down with bricks, cinder, blocks or larger stone along the edges so that it does not blow away during the wind storms. a running bamboo may be able to spread beyond the tarp’s perimeres. To prevent such a results consider using the smothering method in conjuction with burying bamboo barriers.

Cutting : the method of cutting is one of the best option for a self-contained stand of running bamboo on your property.

• Cut the bamboo shoots down

• Apply water to the area

• Cut down the new crop bamboo that will grown up

• Repeat the above as needed

The use of cutting method is the best option because in this process the energy will be exhaust that is stored in the rhizomes underground. But this process is recommended only for a self contained stand. If the running bamboo is a part of a larger stand that span your property and extends to neighboring property than problem is more complicated.

How to remove running bamboo with herbicides

More and more gardeners will chose to avoid the use of chemical herbicides, but in many circumstances may arise that you have to chose chemical approach over organic one.so in this method you have to simply follow the steps used in cutting method that is added another by spraying the bamboo with non-selective herbicide, glyphostate. the reason you cut the bamboo first that glyphosate seems to be more effective against the new bamboo growth that will follow.
