How to Install Morning Star Bamboo Flooring?

Installation Instructions

It is important that you read these instructions in their entirety before starting your project to familiarize yourself with the job and what tools you will need.

1) Before beginning, acclimate the Morning Star bamboo planks by keeping them in the room where they will be installed for a minimum of 48 hours. This will allow them to adjust to the temperature and humidity of the room and prevent future shrinkage or expansion due to changes in temperature or humidity.

2) Choose the direction in which you would like to install your bamboo flooring. We recommend that you install your bamboo parallel to natural light sources such as windows and doors.

3) Snap a chalk line on the subfloor perpendicular to the direction of the bamboo planks. This chalk line will serve as a guide for your first row of flooring.

4) If your subfloor is concrete, you must first install a moisture barrier before proceeding with installation. We recommend using 6mil polyethylene film or 15lb felt paper.

5) Begin installing your first row of flooring along the chalk line, making sure to leave a gap of ⅜” (9.5mm) between the wall and the first plank for expansion purposes. You can use a spacer tool or simply eye-ball it. Once you have installed the first row, use a nail setter or small hammer to tap any nails that are protruding above the surface of the wood so that they are flush with the surface.

6) Continue installing planks until you reach either an obstacle (such as a fireplace hearth) or the end of your room. Then, using a miter saw, cut off planks to size so that they fit snugly against the obstacle or wall. Install these end pieces in the same way that you installed your full-sized planks.

7) For any areas where you need to make cuts other than at 90 degrees (for example, around pipes), use a jigsaw fitted with an appropriate blade for cutting bamboo. Be sure not to cut through more than one laminate at a time as this can cause chips and uneven edges on your finished product. It may be helpful to mark out your cut lines on each plank with pencil before cutting so that you have a guiding line to follow as you cut. Also, take care not make cuts too close to glued joints as this can weaken the structure of your flooring system

8) Once all planks are installed, go back over your work area and check for any nails or staples that may have come up during installation and hammered back down flush with th
